Jonas Kazlauskas

Jonas Kazlauskas ( born November 21, 1954 in Panevėžys ) is a retired Lithuanian professional basketball player and current basketball coach.

Career

Kazlauskas played in his entire playing career (1973-1985) at the historic Lithuanian basketball club Vilnius Statyba, which is known under the name Lietuvos Rytas today. His greatest success as a player was winning a bronze medal in the Soviet Basketball League in 1979.

Later, he was also coach of the two most successful basketball teams in Lithuania, Zalgiris Kaunas (1994-2000) and Lietuvos Rytas (2000-2004). With these two teams, winning six times the Lithuanian Championship and was founded in 2002 " Lithuania coach of the year ". He also won the 1998 Eurocup with Zalgiris and 1999, the Euro League and the North European Basketball League and Lietuvos Rytas again in 2002 with the North European Basketball League. In between, he also oversaw the Lithuanian national basketball team (1997-2001), with whom he won the 1998 Baltic Cup, as well as the bronze medal at the Summer Olympics 2000. After these successful years in his homeland, he moved to Greece for Greek basketball club Olympiakos Piraeus. With Olympiakos Piraeus him go, although no significant successes, but all the more with the Chinese national basketball team, where he was on the side of Del Harris and from 2005-2008 until 2004 as an assistant coach also worked as a head coach. In 2005, he won with his team the FIBA Asia Championships and 2006 after a 59:44 final victory against the Qatari national basketball team the Asian Games. 2009 Kazlauskas coach of Greece and won with it in the same year bronze at the Euro Basket. Upon his completion of his engagements with the Greek national team in 2010, he was head coach of CSKA Moscow for 2011. With CSKA in 2012 he won the Russian Championship and became " Russia coach of the year". Jonas Kazlauskas applies so as one of Europe's best basketball coaches.

Recently he moved in 2013 to the Chinese club Guangdong Southern Tigers.

Jonas Kazlauskas is married and has two daughters. Kazlauskas indicates love to solve crossword puzzles and like to play tennis and computer games.
