Jonathan Del Mar

Jonathan Del Mar ( born 1951 in London ) is an English conductor and musicologist.

Life

Del Mar, the son of conductor Norman Del Mar age of 17, received a music scholarship to Christ Church, Oxford. After studying at the Royal College of Music in London, where he conducted symphony and chamber orchestras, he was invited by Franco Ferrari to participate in the International Conductors Course in Venice. There he gave several concerts with the Orchestra del Teatro la Fenice. His professional career began with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. In 1984 he first appeared on the London Symphony Orchestra and has since worked with almost all the major orchestras in England. He is equally familiar with classical and contemporary music, which is reflected in its programming.

Became internationally known Del Mar with his critical edition of the nine symphonies of Beethoven, which appeared in Bärenreiter. His research started in 1985 and took her degree in 1997 with the publication of the Ninth Symphony. Numerous well-known conductors use Del Mars edition, including Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, Sir Simon Rattle and David Zinman.
