Jonathan Larson

Jonathan Larson ( born February 4, 1960 in White Plains, New York, † January 25, 1996 in New York City ) was an American composer and playwright.

Life

Larson grew up in a Jewish family. After high school studied theater Larson at the Adelphi University, Garden City, New York. During his studies, Larson began composing of various pieces of music and musical works. Larson reached 1982 Bachelor of Liberal Arts. Then Larson moved to Manhattan. In the following years Larson worked on weekends as a waiter and was busy during the week with composing and writing musicals.

Among his works included, among other Sacrimmoralinority (together with David Glenn Armstrong ) and Superbia, for which he received the Richard Rodgers Production Award. In 1991, he presented his work tick, tick ... BOOM! finished. His most important work was the musical Rent, which was not published until 1996. For this musical Larson received the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score. In addition, the musical Rent was the 1996 Drama Desk Award Outstanding Musical and Drama Desk Outstanding Book Award. On 25 January 1996 Larson died at the causes of Marfan syndrome by aortic dissection.
