Jonesboro is a city in Clayton County, Georgia. Before the construction of leading through the village railway he was Leaksville, was renamed in 1845 in honor of participating in the construction of the railway line Colonel Samuel Goode Jones in Jonesborough who was largely new roads in place. Later, the city was given its present name simplified.

The railway line was first built by the Monroe Railroad and Banking Company, although not completed it line up to Atlanta. Only the following Macon and Western Railroad Company was able to complete the work in 1846.

The city played during the Atlanta campaign in May-September 1864 greater role, since the Battle of Jonesborough (see: en: Battle of Jonesborough ) took place from 31 August to 1 September 1864.

In Jonesboro, the Road to Tara Museum is about the history of the film Gone with the Wind.
