Joni Lius

Joni Liu ( born March 4, 1971 in Keuruu ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who played in the Elitserien, among others, for JYP Jyväskylä and Turku TPS in the SM- liiga and the Västra Frölunda HC in its active period from 1989 to 2006.

Career

Joni Liu began his career as a hockey player with JYP Jyväskylä, for the first team he was in the SM- liiga, the top Finnish league, active from 1989 to 1996. Subsequently, the Center spent two years at Västra Frölunda HC in the Swedish Elitserien, before he returned to his Finnish homeland, where he received a contract with TPS Turku. With TPS, he won for the seasons 1998/99, 1999/2000 and 2000/ 01 right off the bat three times in a row, the Finnish championship. At European level, he won also in 2000 with Turku in third place in the European Hockey League.

In the 2001 / 02 season, Liu stood for the Vienna Capitals of the Austrian Hockey League on the ice. In 39 games he scored it 28 points scorer, including five goals. Subsequently, the former national player joined his former club TPS Turku, with which he was runner-up in 04 of the 2003 /. Following the 2005/ 06 season, he finished his career at the age of 35 years.

Internationally

For Finland, Liu took part in the U18 European Junior Championships in 1989 and the 1998 World Cup. In the U18 European Championship in 1989, he won with his team the bronze at the 1998 World Cup silver medal.
