Joop Klant

Johannes Jacobus ( Joop ) Klant ( born March 1, 1915 in Hot Huizen, † December 26, 1994 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch writer and economist. His parents were Pieter Klant and Geertje de Moor.

Life and work

He became known as (Prof. Dr.) J. J. Klant. After studying economics in Amsterdam, he worked for many years as a statistician in Pretoria ( South Africa). From 1966 he was a lecturer and in 1975 professor for state budget engineering at the University of Amsterdam.

J. J. Klant received 1947 Lucy B. s C. W. van der Hoogtprijs Prize of the Society for Dutch Literature for his novel The somewhat strange and quite adventurous lives of the former Kasper January Klaassen.

Shortly after the Second World War Klant went to South Africa, where he remained for eight years. He then worked as a consultant for the Dutch trading company, the then Algemene Bank Nederland - ABN. In 1973 he received his doctorate with the dissertation Spelregels voor Economen (German: Rules for economists ). He has received numerous awards for his work, so in 1993 by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences of the Academy Penning (one of the most important scientific awards of the Netherlands ), he was awarded.
