Jörg Albertz

Jörg Albertz ( born January 29, 1971 in Mönchengladbach ) is a former German football player.

Career

In childhood and adolescence Albertz played for PSV Mönchengladbach and Borussia Moenchengladbach. His first professional contract signed, the left midfielder in 1990 at Fortuna Dusseldorf. After the descent of the Rhineland from the 2nd Bundesliga Albertz moved to Hamburger SV in 1993, where he quickly rose to the audience favorite and two years later also to the team captain.

In the summer of 1996, he then joined the Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers. With the Rangers Jörg Albertz won the 1997, 1999 and 2000 the championship, before he returned to Hamburg in 2001. There, however, he was unable to match the performance shown in the previous years and changed over the course of the 2002 /03 to the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. In China, he was voted Footballer of the Year 2003.

The end of 2004 Albertz finally returned to Germany and wore for half a year the jersey of the second division club SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Several injuries meant that this was a short stint; since 1 July 2005, the midfielder was back at Fortuna Dusseldorf under contract, but only in the Regionalliga.

After the 2006/ 07 season Albertz ended his career for the time being. However, only half a year later followed the comeback. On 11 March 2008 Albertz signed a short-term contract until the end of the season 2007/ 08 the Scottish second division side FC Clyde, whose league he helped to secure.

After finishing his career Albertz operates with Hans-Georg Dreßen a football school, which also organizes summer camps in the area of Mönchengladbach.

Statistics

Jörg Albertz played in his career 150 Bundesliga games for Hamburger SV and Fortuna Dusseldorf, in which he scored 29 goals. He also graduated in the years 1996 and 1998 a total of three caps for the German national team.

Private

Jörg Albertz is the former Miss Germany Mirjana Albertz, Bogojevic born, married, with whom he has a daughter. He lives with his family in Mönchengladbach- Wickrath.
