Jörg Zander

Jörg Zander ( * February 15, 1964 in Ratingen ) is a German mechanical engineer. He was from March to June 2009, Technical Director of the newly formed Brawn GP Formula One team.

Career

Zander moved to the end of his studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Cologne in 1990 as a project engineer for also established Toyota Motorsport GmbH, where he worked for six years. 1996 Zander dared the change in motor sports and worked as a race engineer at Opel Team Rosberg in the ITC racing series. After the departure of Opel ( and Alfa Romeo ) from the ITC, however, it came to setting the series, Zander went back to his old employer Toyota. Here he acted as part of the Le Mans project first as a Chassis Engineering Manager for the Toyota GT -One. Zander was director of development, chassis & hydraulics 1999. After the Formula 1 entry Toyotas in 2002, he became chief engineer for the Transmission & Mechanics for British B · A · R team that took part in the F1 world championship since 1999. 2005 he moved to the English tradition of team Williams, who worked with BMW engine partner. After the end of this partnership Zander followed the call of the newly formed BMW Sauber F1 team, with which the German carmaker henceforth ran as an independent designer in Formula 1, and became chief designer. After two years he moved again in early 2008 the team and took up the post of Deputy Technical Director Shuhei Nakamoto of the Honda Racing F1 team. End of 2008, the Honda Group drew his Formula 1 team back because of the global financial crisis, from the World Cup and sold it through a management buy-out by the previous team principal Ross Brawn. On the 2009 season the team under the name of Brawn GP Formula One Team will participate, Zander moved meanwhile up to his departure to the Technical Director. In 2010 he founded the JZ Engineering GmbH, headquartered in Canton St. Gallen, Switzerland.
