Jorma Kaukonen

Jorma Ludwik Kaukonen Jr. ( born December 23, 1940 in Washington, DC) is an American blues, folk and rock guitarist of Finnish descent. He was a founding member of the bands Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna.

From a young age to Kaukonen enthusiastic for the Blues. In 1957 he had with Jack Casady his first rock 'n' roll band. He accompanied among others, Janis Joplin from their first gigs in pubs and folk clubs with the guitar. In 1961 he began to study in California. In 1965 he joined the band of Paul Kantner and Marty Balin. Kaukonen himself reported that he gave the name of the band Jefferson Airplane - derived from its own nickname Blind Thomas Jefferson Airplane to him by a friend had given because of his fondness for blues music and Blind Lemon Jefferson.

1970 began Kaukonen and Casady, in addition to their performances with Jefferson Airplane Blues to play. They named their second band Hot Tuna. When the double burden became too great, they decided to Hot Tuna, which are still on tour after over 30 years.

Since the mid- 1990s Kaukonen operates with his wife's Fur Peace Ranch Guitar Camp with recording studio, concert hall, music library, restaurant and weekend classes with renowned musicians.
