Jos van Veldhoven

Jos van Veldhoven (* 1952 in 's- Hertogenbosch ) is a Dutch conductor.

Work

Jos van Veldhoven studied musicology at the State University of Utrecht, and choral and orchestral conducting at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Since 1983 he has been Artistic Director of the Netherlands Bach Society ( De Nederlandse Bachvereniging ). Since 1976 he leads he had founded ' Utrecht Barok Consort '.

He achieved international fame through his performances in particular the Passions of Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries.

His work also extends to rarely performed works of early music, including by Giovanni Maria Bononcini, Giovanni Legrenzi, Reinhard Keiser, or - as a Dutch premiere - the St. John Passion by Georg Gebel in November 2007.

Tours with his Bach Society took him to Germany, Japan and the United States. Jos van Veldhoven is also a frequent guest in German opera houses, including in the Bonn Opera with a Handel opera cycle as well as in food.
