José Calvo

José Calvo (often Pepe Calvo, José Calvo actually Salgado, born March 3, 1916 in Madrid, † 16 May 1980 Las Palmas) was a Spanish actor.

Life

Calvo broke off his medical studies to pursue a career as an actor. In 1934 he celebrated his stage debut; In 1951, he was first seen on the screen. In the following almost thirty years, he has appeared in over 150 roles. Ancillary works for Juan Antonio Bardem and Luis Buñuel, he was a regular guest in spaghetti westerns, for the first time as a host Silvanito in Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars. He played in numerous Spanish productions even after ebbing of the Western wave, primarily in comedies and more frequently in television roles.

1970 Calvo received the Spanish Award of the film industry as Best Supporting Actor.

Calvo was married to his fellow actress Mercedes Barranco.
