José Carlos Bauer

Bauer, full name José Carlos Bauer ( born November 21, 1925 in São Paulo, † February 4, 2007 ) was a Brazilian footballer and football coach. In his playing career he was a midfielder.

Life

José Carlos Bauer was born in 1925 in São Paulo, the son of a Swiss father and an Afro - Brazilian. He spent most of his football career with FC São Paulo, with whom he 1943-1953 six times the Campeonato Paulista won over the years. He was considered one of the best players of São Paulo at that time. Overall, he played in São Paulo 419 games and scored 16 goals. In 1954 he moved to Botafogo, where he ended his career the following year.

For the Brazilian national team played 29 games and Bauer took part in the World Championships in 1950 and 1954. He also won the Brazilian selection in 1949 Copa America.

After the end of his playing career Bauer became a coach. In addition to commitments at Guadalajara in Mexico and Millonarios in Colombia he also coached Ferroviária in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. On a journey of the association to Mozambique he saw the young Eusébio playing and introduced him to Béla Guttmann. This is now regarded as the discoverer of Eusebius.

Bauer died in 2007 at the age of 81 years.
