José Joaquín Trejos Fernández

José Joaquín Trejos Fernández ( born April 18, 1916 in San Jose, † February 10, 2010 ) was a Costa Rican politician ( PUN ). He was 1966-1970 president of Costa Rica.

José Trejos studied at the University of Chicago and taught economics for many years as a professor of economics at the Universidad de Costa Rica. He had five children with his wife Clara Fonseca Guardia.

Presidency

Without political history José Trejos was that for a party alliance called Unification Nacional ( National Association ) took in 1966 voted against Daniel Oduber Quirós president. During his presidency was a highway ( carretera the rústica ) built to Puerto Limón founded the Banco Popular, it was adopted a law on community development and made ​​some important constitutional changes.

After his presidency Trejos remained politically active. He published Ocho años en la política costarricense (Eight years in the Costa Rican politics) and an autobiography called Por esfuerzo propio ( own strength ).
