José María Bustamante

Fernando José María Bustamante ( born March 19, 1777 Toluca de Lerdo, † December 4, 1861 in Mexico City) was a Mexican composer.

Bustamante was involved in various churches in Mexico City as a conductor, most recently at the Cathedral. He was active in the Mexican independence movement and taught the first Latin American Conservatory, founded in 1824 in Mexico.

His heroic melodrama Méjico libre (Free Mexico) became known. He also composed an opera and church music.
