José Mercé

José Mercè ( born April 19, 1955 in Jerez de la Frontera ) is a flamenco singer from the Andalusian province of Cádiz in the extreme south of Spain. His real name is José Soto Soto.

As a child, he was lead singer of the School of the Basilica de la Merced, so he has also chosen the stage name Mercè. Age of twelve he went to various flamenco festivals in his homeland.

Later he changed his residence to the Spanish capital Madrid, where he recorded his first record. In 2010 he was awarded the Medalla de Andalucía for his services as a flamenco singer.
