José Núñez (President of Nicaragua)

José Núñez ( * in Solentiname, † March 5, 1880 in Leon (Nicaragua ) ) was the first Director Supremo of Nicaragua.

Life

His ancestors were Guatusos ( indigenous tribe from Costa Rica); Fray Ramón Rojas led him to study in León. Later he studied medicine and surgery in Santiago de Chile. Then he returned to Nicaragua and practiced as a physician in León, where he taught medicine at the University.

On March 10, 1834, he assumed the position of Director Supremo. On January 20, 1835, the volcano erupted Cosigüina, which enabled the people of León in terror. On March 23, 1835, he handed over his office to Jose Zepeda and was his deputy. Zepeda was killed January 25, 1837. Then Núñez was again Director Supremo and let the head of the guard, Braulio Mendiola füssilieren because he had killed José Zepeda.

Subsequently, he was elected Director Supremo. He took this office on March 13, 1838. His deputy was Joaquín Cosío. Consecutive were his Minister General Pablo Buitrago y Benavente, JN Gonzalez and Hermenegildo Zepeda.

By order of April 30, 1838, Nicaragua declared his withdrawal from the República Federal de Centro América, and thus became an independent state.
