José Padilha

José Padilha ( born August 1, 1967 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian director, documentary filmmaker and producer. He has produced numerous films and television productions.

For the first time director, he led 2002 documentary Ônibus 174, in which he tells the story of the kidnapping of a bus line in Rio de Janeiro. The film is based on a true story of 12 June 2000, where the kidnappers and hostages were killed.

2007 Padilha turned the film Elite Squad, in which he discusses the corruption of the police of Rio de Janeiro and its brutal fight against the drug mafia. The film came two months before the official release on the internet and was seen by approximately 12 million people on black copies. Nevertheless, the film became the most successful film production in Brazil in 2007. He won 16 February 2008 the Golden Bear at the International Film Festival in Berlin. The film was previously advised both in Brazil and internationally because of its excessive violence in the criticism.

In 2008 he filmed the documentary garapa about hunger in Brazil based on the everyday life of three families.

In 2011, Padilha ago at the Berlinale Elite Squad 2, which continues the storyline of the first part.
