Josef Ludl

Josef Ludl ( born June 3, 1916 in Dallowitz in Mladá Boleslav, Austria - Hungary, now Czech Republic, † August 1, 1998 in Prague) was a Czech football player.

Playing career

Josef Ludl played in his youth for Aston Villa Mladá Boleslav and moved to Prague at Viktoria Zizkov 18 years. 1936 succeeded the striker, who could also be used as an attacking midfielder, with his team of promotion to the 1st Czechoslovak league. On April 18, 1937 Ludl debuted in the Czechoslovak national team, of which he was a member at the World Cup 1938 in France.

1939 moved Ludl to its strengths included the technology and the fighting spirit, the reigning champions Sparta Prague, where he quickly took a leadership role. In the press he was compared with the then Brazilian top players Leônidas da Silva. As an allrounder and playmaker Ludl Sparta Prague in 1944, 1946 and 1948, winning the title.

The war years prevented Ludl for the continuation of an international career. For Czechoslovakia respectively Bohemia and Moravia Ludl made ​​only 16 matches, but he scored six goals. Even a little bit behind the zenith of his career, he was appointed in 1947 in the European selection, the first in Rotterdam, the Netherlands beat 2-1 and then a selection of Great Britain with 1:6 defeated in Glasgow.

After a serious injury Josef Ludl ended in 1951 with 34 years of his active career.

Coaching career

After his time as a player Ludl oversaw three teams in the first league for one season as a coach, but without much success. In 1956, he coached Spartak Hradec Králové, in 1957/58 SONP Kladno and after several years break 1960/61, Jednota Trenčín. Later Ludl worked as a fire protection installer.
