Josef Němec

Josef Němec ( born September 25, 1933, České Budějovice, Czechoslovakia, † September 10, 2013 ) was a Czechoslovak fighter. Němec was European champion in 1963 and bronze medalist at the European Championships in 1957 and 1959 and the Olympics in 1960. Besides, he was in 1956 and 1964 participants.

Career

Němec was eleven times Czechoslovak champion and denied 320 fights, of which he won 308.

One of his first international matches for the Czechoslovak selection denied Němec 1954 against Ulli Nitzschke, GDR, however, which he lost by TKO in the third round. In 1956 he was first Czechoslovak champion and as such took part in the Olympic Games in 1956, in which he lost however in the first fight against the eventual Olympic champion Pete Rademacher, USA (KO 2 ). In the following two European Championships in 1957 and 1959, he won the bronze medal.

At the Olympic Games in 1960 Němec reached after victories over Dave Thomas, England (5-0 ), and Percy Price, USA ( 4:1), the semi-final, which he, however, against Franco De Piccoli, Italy ( 4-1 ), lost and therefore the bronze medal.

1961 different Němec still at the European Championships in the quarterfinals of, but was in 1963 with a final victory over Andrei Abramov, Soviet Union, to win the European title.

In 1964 Němec again at the Olympics in part, but different from Giuseppe Ros, Italy ( 4:1), in the second round, and then retired from active competition.

After his playing career, he was the coach of the Box Clubu Taty Nemce v Českých Budějovicích and honorary president of Budweiser Samson Boxing clubs.
