Josef Noa

Josef Noa ( born October 21, 1856 in Nagybecskerek, † June 1, 1903 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian - Austria chess master.

While Noa did not win a major tournament, but he beat a number of the strongest chess players of his time, about Chigorin, Mason and Blackburne in Vienna in 1882, twice Bird in London in 1883, Gunsberg 1885 in Hamburg, Zukertort and Mackenzie in Frankfurt am Main in 1887 and Maroczy in Budapest 1896.

By profession, Noa was a judge. He founded the chess club Novi Sad and headed this time as chairman.
