Josef Samek

Joseph Samek ( born November 6, 1957 in Vrchlabí ) is a former Czechoslovakian ski jumper.

Samek jumped from 1976 annually in the Four Hills Tournament. In the Ski Flying World Championships 1979 he reached on 1 January 1979 in Planica the 5th Place. A day later, he was the first gain a jumping Four Hills Tournament in Partenkirchen. On December 30, 1979, he jumped for the first time in Oberstdorf in the newly created World Cup Ski Jumping. The first competition, he remained unsuccessful and no World Cup points.

At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid Samek reached on the normal hill and 39th in the large hill the 23th Place.

In the Four Hills Tournament 1980/81, he remained in all four jumping back far short of expectations and could not repeat his success of 1979. When you first jump after the tour in Harrachov he reached 7th place on the large hill his first World Cup points. Also in the next World Cup Jumping, he ended up getting to the end of the season in the points. At the end of the World Cup season 1980/81 he finished in 31st place in the overall standings. The following season began as the last one with unsuccessful jumping in the Four Hills Tournament. However, in his first competition after the tour on January 27, 1982, he could jump with a 2nd place in St. Moritz on the podium for the first time. However, it was the only podium finish of his career. The following World Cup he finished for the most part in the points, so that he stood at the end of the season in 16th place in the World Cup overall standings. The following season began again with bad placements as part of the tour, so he decided after the event in Garmisch -Partenkirchen on 1 January 1984, to end his career.
