Josef Schmid (theologian)

Josef Schmid ( born January 26, 1883 in Holzhausen ( Bad Aibling ), † 4 September 1975 in Munich) was a Catholic theologian and professor of New Testament exegesis and biblical hermeneutics at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich.

Biography

Josef Schmid studied philosophy and theology in Innsbruck, Munich and Freising. After receiving his doctorate and habilitation in Catholic theology, he was in 1931 professor of New Testament at the Philosophical- Theological College, Dillingen and 1951 professor at the Faculty of the University of Munich, where he taught until his retirement in 1959 and researched Catholic Theology.
