Josef Stoer

Stoer 1961 at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz Friedrich L. Bauer PhD ( About two algorithms for interpolation with rational functions). He was a professor at the University of Würzburg.

He is particularly concerned with approximation theory, extrapolation and optimization methods and is known for textbooks, in particular its Computational Mathematics with Roland Bulirsch, based on lectures by Friedrich Bauer and first 1972/73 appeared.

He is a honorary doctorate from the University of Augsburg (2007) and the Technical University of Munich ( 1997). Stoer is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
