Josefsdorf

Josef village was formerly an independent municipality and is now a part of Vienna in the 19th district of Vienna Dobling and one of the 89 Vienna Katastralgemeinden.

Geography

Josef village is on the facing to Vienna steep side of Mount Kahlenberg. With an area of ​​64.99 hectares, the Cadastral is the smallest of the Döblinger parts of the district. Its territory is part of the statistical enumeration Nussdorf- Kahlenbergerdorf.

History

The foundation stone was laid in 1628 by Josef village of the Camaldolese. These had been called to the mediation of the Polish Marshal Nicholas Wolsky of Ferdinand II into the country. De facto, the settlement initially only from the monastery and was named after the hill on which it was pig mountain. Pig Mountain is the original name of the Kahlenberg. 1892 Josef village was incorporated as part of the Kahlenberger village together with the neighboring suburbs of Vienna Sievering, Grinzing, Oberdöbling Unterdöbling, Nussdorf and the Holy City as District Dobling to Vienna.
