Josefstädter Straße (Vienna U-Bahn)

The station Josefstädterstraße is an above-ground station of the Vienna U -Bahn line U6 on the border between the 8th and the 16th district of Vienna. It is located on the median strip along the belt between the output Josefstädterstraße and the Uhlplatz. The eastern exit of the station is dominated by the width of fields church built 1886-1898 in the style of the early Italian Renaissance. It is possible to take tram 2 in the direction Ottakring and Friedrich- Engels-Platz to transfer. On working days except Saturday here also holds the 33 whose loop is located here. On Sundays and public holidays, the railway track is in the early morning hours of tram line 5 to turn.

The elevated station has two side platforms and was first opened in 1898 as part of the designed by Otto Wagner Stadtbahn. It was closed after the First World War and reopened after the electrification of the belt and Wiental 1925. In 1989, the start of operations of the U6.

The train station is east as the west side enter through the typical green lacquered swinging doors. From the reception hall, two stairways leading to the platforms. The desolate condition of the station caused the Wiener Linien in 2011, the building to renovate extensively. To this end, the station was closed in July, subway trains ran without stopping by. Since the restoration was more complicated than originally thought, the U6 was eventually shut down completely between Alserstraße and Western train stations by the end of August 2011. To replace the temporary tram line E has been introduced. Since August 29, 2011, the U6 is back on the entire route on the way, the station Josefstädterstraße remained until November 25, 2011 locked, the restoration work is still ongoing until 2013. The cost of general refurbishment should be around three million euros.
