Josep Caixal i Estradé

Josep Caixal i Estradé (* 1803 in Vilosell in the comarca Garrigues; † in Rome 1879) was from 1853 to his death Bishop of Urgell and therefore Kofürst of Andorra.

In 1847 he was co-founder of the Catalan publishing house " Libreria religiosa ". As Bishop of Urgell, he followed in 1853 Simó de Guardiola y Hortoneda. On the initiative of the Andorran politician Guillem de Plandolit i de Areny far-reaching political and social reforms have been proposed for Andorra in 1866, which was also the bishop on 14 April his consent.
