Joseph-Antoine Froelicher

Joseph -Antoine Froelicher ( born November 2, 1790 in Solothurn as Josef -Anton Froelicher, † January 9, 1866 in Paris) was a Swiss- French architect, who built buildings in the first half of the 19th century for the nobility in France.

Life

Joseph -Antoine Froelicher was born into a patrician family in Solothurn. Froelicher began his architectural studies, first to Switzerland and then received a scholarship from the government to continue this in Paris. From 1809 he was enrolled there as a student of the École des Beaux -Arts. In 1810 he was naturalized in France.

As an architect of numerous families of the French nobility, he built these castles and palaces. He became the official architect of the Duchess de Berry, for he expanded the castle in Rosny -sur -Seine. As a monarchist, he had many difficulties after the revolution of 1830.

Froelicher is the father of the architect Henri Parent.
