Joseph Anton Merz

Joseph Anton Merz (* 1681 in Markt Oberdorf, Allgaeu, † January 7, 1750 in Straubing ) was a Swabian- Bavarian painter of the Baroque and early Rococo.

Life and work

He worked until 1734 mainly in the area of Straubing and has predominantly created altarpieces and frescoes. Among his works (now greater community Moosthenning ) include the frescoes of the monastery Oberaltaich and the ceiling frescoes of the Church of St. John of Nepomuk in Thürnthenning. He is also detectable in Wörth an der Donau, on the arc mountain hemlock and Ittling as an artist. Together with his student Johann Adam scoop he created in 1729 the paintings on the nave walls and pilasters of the Cistercian abbey church of the monastery of God cell.
