Geography

Moosthenning lies in the region in Landshut, about 100 km north-east of Munich, close to the county town of Dingolfing, in scenic Isar valley.

There are the following districts: Dornwang, Lengthal, Moosthenning, Ottering, Rimbach, Thürnthenning. The administrative center of the municipality is located in the district of Unterhollerau, district Lengthal.

Important habitats for rare animal and plant species form the Königsauer moss and the south-facing slopes to the Isar valley.

The Dreifaltigkeitsberg was originally the main triangle mesh point of the first Bavarian State Survey of 1801.

History

Moosthenning belonged to Rentamt Landshut and Dingolfing district court of the Electorate of Bavaria. The Lords of Aythalb and other corporal had precious seats here. 1818 originated in the implementation of the Second Bavarian village Edict communities Rimbach, Dornwang, Lengthal, Moosthenning, Thürnthenning and Ottering, which were combined in the course of municipal reform in the 1970s to the municipality Moosthenning.

In the district Thürnthenning there was a Hofmark that is proven since the 14th century. After various owners, they stood in the 18th century the noble family of Auer down the angle. This was built after a fire in 1732, a new castle was built in 1851 canceled. The memory of this building lives in the house name Schlossbauer on. In the corresponding fragments of the castle now peasant property are incorporated. Among the village churches in the greater community, there are two notable Baroque buildings: The 1693-1714 Built Sanctuary Dreifaltigkeitsberg (Tower of 1739, renewed by lightning in 1770 ) and the St. John of Nepomuk church, consecrated in Thürnthenning. The latter was completed by the city architect George Dingolfinger Weigenthaler 1732 and equipped by the Straubinger painter Joseph Anton Merz with high-quality ceiling frescoes. The church stands out because of its location on the northern slopes of the Isar valley with its architectural action at a distance.

In addition, some of the region once typical eaves -developed farmhouses in block construction have survived in situ in the districts Lengthal and Rimbach, who survived the increased crashes and new buildings of the 1960s and 1970s. In Dornwang ( Dorfstr. 28) can be found at a house two stone figures representing the St. Mauritius and St. Florian. They were auctioned during the demolition of the Baroque high altar of the church of St. John in Dingolfing in 1884 by a local farmer and erected new here.
