Life

Bois Mortier received his first music lessons after the family in 1691 had become a resident of Metz. His father was a pastry chef and former soldier from near Berry. His music teacher Joseph Valette de Montigny, a well-known motet composers, he followed in 1713 to Perpignan, where he first worked as a tax collector for the Royal Tobacco Company. Previously, he played in 1711 in the orchestra of Duke Leopold which was under the leadership of the famous Nancy Henri Desmarest. On November 20, 1720, he married Marie Valette, daughter of a wealthy goldsmith and the niece of his teacher, in the Cathedral of Saint -Jean de Perpignan.

1721 his first compositions were laid: Two airs à boire. He came to the court of the Duchess of Maine at Sceaux, and finally to Paris, where he had a successful career as a gallant composer. On November 15, 1722 his daughter Suzanne Bodin de Bois Mortier was born. He quit shortly after his appointment as a cash officer and broke, again on the advice of his patron d' Andrezel, to the conquest of Paris. He made in Agen station, where he met with his newborn daughter, the family of brothers l' Abbé, music educator of Saint- Caparais Church, attended.

In Paris, he moved to the Rue Saint -Antoine. His house was located directly at the Jesuit monastery, where he lived until the death of his wife.

In 1753 he withdrew from the music scene back, unnerved by Buffonistenstreit, a dispute between the supporters of the French and Italian tradition. He spent his retirement on the estate La Gâtinellerie in Roissy -en- Brie, where he died.

Since a large part of his chamber musical creation of the flute is dedicated, it seems likely that Bois Mortier has played the instrument itself. This, however, not yet occupied assumption is supported by the published Bois Mortier 1740 as Opus 90 textbooks Principes de la Flute, however, must be regarded as lost today. Also for Diskantviolen he wrote a textbook. He also published a harmony lexicon.
