Joseph-Henri Léveillé

Joseph Henri Léveillé (* 1796, † 1870) was a French physician, botanist and mycologist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Lév. ".

Life and work

Léveillé studied at the University of Paris medicine and graduated in 1824 as MD in his work Recherches sur l' hymenium de champignon he described the basidia of Stand mushrooms for the first time. In 1837 he postulated in Sur le hymenium of mushrooms that stand fungi form their spores in basidia and sac fungi that its in the asci. Also, the fact that fungal hyphae form sclerotia, was discovered by him ( in Mémoire sur le genere Sclerotium - 1843 ). In this work he also described the genus Sclerotium as imperfect clan. In 1846 he created a fungal system, which he based on microscopic criteria laid ( in: Considérations mycologiques, d'une nouvelle suivies classification of mushrooms ) and in which he was facing the ascomycete fruiting bodies on the basis of the Basidiomycetes.
