Joseph Nemours Pierre-Louis

Joseph Nemours Pierre- Louis ( born October 24, 1900 in Cap- Haïtien, † April 1966 in Port -au -Prince ) was a Haitian politician and President of Haiti.

Biography

Pierre- Louis, who studies the physics and law graduated, was initially a physics teacher at the Lycée Philippe Guerrier. After working as a professor of law from 1928 to 1937 he was judge of the Municipal Court of Cap- Haïtien.

After the revolution of January 1946, he was only elected senator and then appointed to the President of the Supreme Court ( Cour Suprême ).

After the escape of Paul Eugène Magloire, he was appointed by the latter in a radio address on December 12, 1956 pursuant to the Constitution to the incumbent President of Haiti.

In a first radio address, he promised to hold elections in April 1957, ordered the release of former presidential candidate and wealthy plantation owner Louis DEJOIE and other political prisoners to. In early January 1957, he ordered the seizure and search of possessions of President Magloire.

The Office of the President he retained until his replacement by Franck Sylvain on February 7, 1957.
