Joseph-Nicolas-Pancrace Royer

Joseph -Nicolas- Pancrace Royer (* 1705 in Turin, † January 11, 1755 in Paris) was a French composer, harpsichordist and singer.

Life

Joseph -Nicolas- Pancrace Royer, whose father worked at the court of Savoy in Turin, has already received early musical training. 1725 he moved to Paris and entered the first time, with the setting of some comedies of Alexis Piron appears a composer. In 1734 he was given the honorable position as " Maître de musique des Enfants de France ", that is, he was responsible for the musical education of the children of King Louis XV. 1753, shortly before his death, he received a prestigious position as head of the royal chamber music. In the same year he was appointed conductor of the opera orchestra. From 1748 he was Head of Concerts spirituels together with Gabriel Capperan. During this time, the concert hall has been modernized and installed an organ.
