Joseph Sembratovych

Josyf Sembratowicz ( Ukrainian: Йосиф Сембратович, Polish: Josyf Sembratowycz ) ( born November 8, 1821 in Krynica, † October 23, 1900 in Rome) was Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, archeparchy Lviv ( Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, now Ukraine).

Life

Josyf Sembratowicz was born in 1821. After his studies in Vienna, he was ordained priest on October 7, 1845. At the age of 44 years, on 24 March 1865 he was appointed titular bishop of Nazianzus and was ordained on June 11, 1865 in the St. George's Cathedral in Lviv by Spiridon Litwinowytsch. The appointment as Archbishop of Lviv was held on 27 June 1870. On December 22 of the year 1882, at the age of 62 years, was Josyf Sembratowicz during his retirement Titular Archbishop of Theodosiopolis.

In the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria he possessed as Lemberger Metropolitan over a Virilstimme in the Galician parliament.

Rome wanted to push through with its help celibacy in the Greco- Uniate Church.

In 1900 Archbishop Sembratowicz died in Rome in the age of 79.
