Richard Joshua Compston ( born June 1, 1970 in Putney, London Borough of Wandsworth, England; † 5 March 1996 in London, England ) was an English gallery.

Life

Compston was the son of a judge. He attended St. Edward's School ( Oxford) before he went to the London Courtauld Institute of Art. There he completed his studies in 1992 and founded his gallery, Factual Nonsense. This was in Hoxton in the East End of London in the Charlotte Road.

Among the artists the gallery Compstons counted some of the Young British Artists, including Tracey Emin. On the Hoxton Square, he organized an artist festival annually. He died from an overdose of ether. At his funeral a few hundred of the most important representatives of the then London art scene took part. His coffin was painted by his artist friends Gary Hume and Gavin Turk.
