Joutseno

Joutseno [ jɔu̯tsɛnɔ ] is a former city in South Karelia in south-eastern Finland with nearly 11,000 residents. At the beginning of 2009, it was incorporated in Lappeenranta.

Distance to Helsinki in the West, as well as to Saint Petersburg in the east, is about 250 kilometers. Joutseno is on 73 m. ü. M.

Already 6000 years ago this area was inhabited at the southern edge of Lake Saimaa. In 1639 it became the independent municipality, from 2005 it was allowed to call the city. Prior to the incorporation to Lappeenranta the municipality was 498.4 km ² (of which country: 310.7 km ²). With a population of 10,890 on 31 July 2006, this resulted in a population density of 35.0 inhabitants per km ². Over a distance of 9 km bordering the municipality of Joutseno to Russia.

Joutseno is known for its paper, sawmill, chemical, plastic and steel industry, whose products are exported worldwide.

The transport links to Joutseno is excellent. The nearest airport is about 20 minutes from the airport Lappeenranta. The flight to Helsinki -Vantaa airport takes half an hour. The city also lies at the state road 6, with the one from Helsinki takes 3 hours as long as by train. In addition Joutseno be reached by sea.
