Jozef Plachý

Jozef Plachý ( born February 28, 1949 in Košice ) is a former Slovak middle distance runner who competed for Czechoslovakia.

About 800 m, it was at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City fifth, won the silver medal at the European Athletics Championships in 1969 in Athens and finished sixth at the 1971 European Championships in Helsinki.

In 1972, he won the 800m gold at the Indoor Athletics Championships in Grenoble and reached at the Olympic Games in Munich, the semi-finals. The following year, he won at the European Indoor Championships in Rotterdam Bronze 800 m and with the Czechoslovak team silver in the 4 x 720- meter relay.

Another bronze medal over 800 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg in 1974 was followed by a fourth place over this distance at the European Indoor Championships 1975 in Katowice. At the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976, he retired about 800 m from the inlet port.

About 1500 m 1977 he won gold at the Universiade and finished sixth at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow.

Nine times he was Czechoslovak champion over 800 m (1968, 1969, 1971-1977 ) and twice more than 1500 m (1978, 1980). In the hall in 1972 he was U.S. champion over 1000 yards and 1979 Czechoslovak champion in the 1500 m.
