József Karai

Karai József ( born November 8, 1927 in Budapest) is a Hungarian composer.

Biography

Karai began his musical education relatively late at the age of 12 years. After the Second World War he worked as a laborer in a power plant in Budapest. From 1948 he headed a few choirs in Budapest and began composing choral literature. Since 1969 he has worked as a freelance composer who continues to focus on choral music.

He is regarded as one of the innovators of the chorus sound that draws in part to the aleatoric.
