József Vértesy

József Vértesy ( born February 19, 1901 in Sombor, Serbia, † December 21, 1983 in Budapest) was a Hungarian water polo player.

Vértesy took first at the water polo tournament of the 1924 Olympic Games held in Paris, where he lost to the Belgian in the quarterfinals with the Hungarian national team with 2:7. Four years later, at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, was beaten only Argentina, America and France, before they met in the finals to Germany and after a 2:5 defeat only took the silver medal. In four games Vértesy scored nine goals.

At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles Hungary met on America and Japan and then again in the final to Germany. The revenge was successful and Vértesy fetched after a 6-2 victory in which he threw three goals, with his team-mates Bródy György Sándor Ivády, Olivér Halassy, Márton Homonnay, János Németh, István Barta, Alajos Keseru, Miklós and Ferenc Sárkány Keseru the gold medal.
