Jørgen Bentzon

Jørgen Bentzon ( born February 14, 1897 in Copenhagen, † 9 July 1951 Hørsholm ) was a Danish composer.

Life and work

The student of Carl Nielsen and Sigfrid Karg- Elert lived as a judicial officer in Copenhagen. He devoted himself particularly to the promotion of music education. Many of his works are intended for performance by the school orchestra. In 1931 he participated in the founding of a folk music school.

Bentzon composed in addition to numerous chamber works four symphonies, two overtures, opera Saturnalia (1944, according to Apuleius ), Variations for Orchestra, a symphonic trio, cantatas, choruses and songs. His Opus 1 in 1921 are variations on a theme of Chopin for piano.
