Juan Corzo

Juan Corzo y Principe (* June 24, 1873 in Madrid, † September 27, 1941 in Havana ) was a Cuban chess master.

Corzo y Principe emigrated 1887 to Cuba, where he became the best chess players in the country. He was a master of the chess clubs of Havana, when he faced the José Raúl Capablanca 13 -year-old a competition for the Cuban championship with 6-7 ( 3, -4, = 6) lost in 1901 and thus entered the chess history.

Corzo y Principe remained after Capablanca later meteoric rise of one of the leading players of Cuba and gave up the chess magazine Capablanca 's Chess Magazine. Together with Capablanca, he founded the Cuban Chess Federation.
