Juan Luis Segundo

Juan Luis Segundo, SJ ( born October 31, 1925 in Montevideo, Uruguay; † January 17, 1996 ibid ), philosopher and theologian. It is an important and early proponent of liberation theology.

Life

Segundo was a Jesuit since 1941, he studied philosophy and theology in Buenos Aires ( licentiate in philosophy in 1952 ), lions ( licentiate in theology ) and Paris ( Ph.D. 1963).

He then worked as a university chaplain, director of the Centre for Social Research and Action Pedro Fabro in Montevideo and gave the magazine " Perspectivas de Diálogo " out until 1975 closed under pressure from the center of government, both had to be adjusted as well as the magazine. He then continued to work with various lay groups.

Segundo has taught at universities in Europe, North and Latin America (including Harvard, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Birmingham and São Paulo), but never held an academic function in Uruguay.
