Juan Pantoja de la Cruz
Juan Pantoja de la Cruz (* 1553 in Valladolid, † October 26, 1608 in Madrid) was a Spanish painter.
Life
He was a pupil of Alonso Sánchez Coello and influenced in turn Diego Velázquez. He worked for both Philip II and Philip III. as court painter and is considered representative of the Castilian mannerism. Juan Pantoja de la Cruz was the opinion of art historians one of the great Spanish Poträtisten of the 16th century. It is famous among other things, his portrait of the Infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia of Spain ( Alte Pinakothek, Munich).
