Jules Danbé

Jules Danbe (* December 15, 1840 in Caen, † October 30, 1905 ) was a French conductor and violinist.

Danbe was 1861-1870 Violinist at Orchestre du Vaudeville, at the Théâtre Lyrique, the Opéra -Comique and the Paris Opera. He looked at the Concerts Pasdeloup with was a soloist at the Societé des Beaux -Arts. In 1871 he founded the Concerts du Grand -Hôtel.

In 1875, he was director of the Théâtre Lyrique; 1876 ​​to 1898 he headed the Opéra -Comique, after which he returned to the Théâtre Lyrique. Under his leadership, several important contemporary operettas and operas were premiered, including " Tales of Hoffmann " by Jacques Offenbach ( 1881), " Lakme " by Leo Delibes (1883 ), " Manon " by Jules Massenet (1884, with Marie Heilbronn in the lead role ) and " Le filibuster " by César Cui (1894 ).

In addition to his conducting career was Danbe violinist and concertmaster of the orchestra of the Conservatoire de Paris, and in 1888 director of the Fondation Beaulieu. He composed several works for violin and published a violin school. In 1885 he was awarded the Legion of Honour.
