Julia Donaldson

Julia Donaldson MBE ( born September 16, 1948 in Hampstead, London) is a British author, who is ever counted mainly because of their Gruffalo character of the most successful children's book authors. She was appointed Children's Laureate 2011-2013.

Life

Donaldson studied literature and French at the University of Bristol and worked as an editor, journalist and teacher. Today she is a freelance writer in Glasgow, Scotland.

Donaldson began her career as a writer of songs for children's television. The text of her song A Squash And A Squeeze became the illustrator Axel Scheffler accidentally into his hands, who was convinced of the text so that it summarily illustrated himself. The finished book was published in 1993. Since then she has written numerous children's books, including the bestseller The Gruffalo, which was also illustrated by Axel Scheffler. For the book The Gruffalo, she received three major British book awards ( Smarties Prize, the Blue Peter Award and the Experian Big Three Award). The Gruffalo has been published in over 30 languages, including under the title of The Gruffalo in German. Reading tours in Germany
