Julián Arcas

Julián Arcas (* 1832 in María ( Almería province ), † February 16, 1882 in Antequera ( Málaga province ), completely Julián Arcas Gavino Lacal ) was a Spanish guitarist, composer and guitar teacher. He had great influence on Francisco Tárrega and Antonio de Torres.

Life

Arcas was a co-founder of the new wave of Spanish guitar music, a renaissance of the guitar in Spain provoked after 1850 and is considered one of the founders of classical Spanish guitar school. His style of guitar playing has achieved worldwide renown by his student Francisco Tárrega and in turn his pupil.

Probably 1850 Arcas met the luthier Antonio de Torres, one of his first guitars, La Leona built for him. Arcas Torres advised to make the guitar to work and played until the end of his career, only Torres guitars.

Arcas was 1860-1872 a famous guitar virtuoso and has performed in Spain and England. 1862 visited the young Tárrega with his father, a concert in Castellon de la Plana. Tárrega's father asked Arcas to let his son, who had previously received some guitar lessons from a blind musician named Manuel González, audition. Arcas was so impressed that he invited attention to the Ten Years after Barceolona to train him there. 1872 Arcas pulled out of the concert business back, but returned in 1874 returned to the stage and died in 1882 during a concert tour.
