Julian Beck

Julian Beck ( born May 31, 1925 in Washington Heights (New York City ); † September 14, 1985 in New York City ) was an American actor, director, painter and poet.

Life

At the College of the City of New York trained, Beck visited briefly Yale University, his studies broke from there but in order to devote himself to writing and art. He published some of his poems, which contained anarchist ideas, among other things, first published in the magazine published by Urban Gwerder Hotcha.

In the 1940s, he tried his hand as an expressionist painter. In 1943 he met his future wife, the actress Judith Malina, with whom he shared his passion for the theater and with whom he founded the Living Theatre. In 1983 he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. He died in 1985 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan (New York City ), nor during the filming of the movie Poltergeist II - The Other Side.
