Julio César Vásquez

Julio César Vásquez ( born July 13, 1966 in Santa Fe, Argentina) is an Argentine professional boxer.

Professional career

The impact strong southpaw Vásquez was in his home in the professional light middleweight in 1986. He won his first 30 fights, then was defeated in May 1991, the American Verno Phillips by disqualification.

On 21 December 1992, he succeeded in Buenos Aires than to win at this time in the world rankings Erstplatziertem, the vacant junior WBA middleweight title with a first-round knockout over the Japanese Hitoshi Kamiyama, in the then number 5 in the world rankings. He defended, among others, against Javier Castillejo and Aaron "Superman" Davis on points. Against the Russians unknown Dottujew he went twice to the ground. The previously undefeated "Winky" Wright he beat on points. Vásquez is so far the only boxer who Wright had on the ground. On 4 March 1995, he finally lost his title to the smaller southpaw boxer Pernell Whitaker and Star. Although he had Whitaker twice on the ground, but was otherwise no chance and was subject to over twelve rounds clearly on points.

Whitaker put the title, however, quickly re-deposited; the vacant belt then won another southpaw, the American Carl Daniels, then on December 16, 1995 received a new title chance against the Vásquez. In the fight to him nor the KO and thus the second title win was achieved in the eleventh round, hopeless back lying on points.

The very next fight he went, however, against Laurent Boudouani from France KO. He boxed then further still, but could never able to return to old services. He defeated among others, in 2001 the British Robin Reid and 2004, the later Russian WBO titlist Denis Inkin.
