Denis Inkin

Denis Inkin Anatoljevich (Russian Денис Анатольевич Инкин; born January 7, 1978 in Novosibirsk, Soviet Union ) is a Russian boxer.

Amateur career

His amateur time spent Denis Inkin predominantly with the Russian military. There he won the 1994 title of Russian Champion in the age group of cadets (U -17) and the European Championship of Cadets in the light middleweight. 1996 Inkin was Russian master of juniors. In 1997 he won the middleweight division at the Military World Championship in San Antonio. In 1998 he participated in the Goodwill Games in New York in part and lost there against Cuban Ariel Hernández injury-related crash in the third round. In 1999 he also won the middleweight title at the Military World Championships in Zagreb.

Professional career

Denis Inkin began his professional career in June 2001. In his second professional fight, he defeated the Armenians Mger Mkrtchian, an eventual champions and challengers of WBO world champion Joe Calzaghe. In September 2004, he was the former world champion Julio César Vásquez beat prematurely. There were other battles structure with the aim to gain a recognized world title. Since 2005 Inkin stands at the German Universum Box-Promotion in Hamburg under contract and trained under Magomed Schaburow. On 21 October 2006 he defeated his stablemate Mario Veit by knockout in round seven.

With four more wins, including against the hitherto ungeschlagenenen Hungary József Nagy Inkin reached number one in the WBO world rankings, as well as among the top four in the other three major associations WBA, WBC and IBF. After he canceled twice scheduled to fight against the British Carl Froch at the vacant WBC world championship, he should first fight against his stablemate Hungarian Károly Balzsay to the interim WBO title. Since Balzsay but injured in the preparation, the Colombian Fulgencio Zuniga was shortly obliged as a replacement opponent. In addition, the struggle for full WBO World Championship has been upgraded since Joe Calzaghe resigned the title in eleven years. Inkin defeated on 27 September 2008 in Hamburg Color Line Arena the hard-hitting Zuniga over twelve rounds on points.

In his first title defense on January 10, 2009 in Magdeburg, he then had to play Károly Balzsay. In a largely balanced fight to Balzsay prevailed by a narrow points victory. Inkin suffered their first defeat of his professional career and leave the WBO title after only 3.5 months.
