Julio Salinas Fernández ( born September 11, 1962 in Bilbao ) is a former Spanish footballer, who played in the position of striker.

Career

Salinas began his professional career in 1982 with the team of Athletic Bilbao, with whom he twice the championship in the Primera División in 1983 and 1984 and a Copa del Rey won in 1984. In 1986 he moved to Atlético Madrid, where he played for two years. In 1988 he moved to FC Barcelona, ​​where he was able to celebrate his successful period with four Spanish championships and won the won the European Champions' Cup in the 1991/92 season. In 1994 he left Barcelona to La Coruna, with whom he came in second behind Real Madrid at the end of the season. However, he left the club after just one year, around 1995 to go to Sporting Gijon. In 1997, he moved then to Japan to Yokohama F. Marinos, before he again returned to Spain in 1998 to play for Deportivo Alaves. After the 1999/2000 season he finally ended his active career.

Salinas denied during his career 417 games in the Spanish league, where he could make 152 times and 47 games in the Japanese League, where he hit 34 times.

Internationals

Salinas denied between 1986 and 1996 a total of 56 caps for the Spanish national team and was able to achieve 22 goals in time. He made his debut on January 22, 1986 in the game against the Soviet Union in which he also equally able to achieve a goal. He participated in the World Championships 1986, 1990 and 1994. His last game for the national team he made at the Euro 1996 quarter-final match against England, when Spain was eliminated in a penalty shootout.
